Originally from Nipissing First Nation and currently based in Toronto, Que Rock has earned national recognition as a member of the Mighty Zulu Kingz, DDT (Dirty Defiant Tribe), and Ready to Rock.
Throughout the week, Que Rock held a series of student workshops at three Sault Ste. Marie high schools; White Pines, Superior Heights and Korah. The workshops explored the origin story of Hip Hop Culture (including graffiti art) and First Nations contribution to its foundation.
Students also had the opportunity to take what they learned and applied it immediately, by creating art work in various forms, including murals, in their schools.
Sault Ste. Marie’s new Community Cultural Plan states that the community needs to develop greater engagement with Sault Ste. Marie’s youth through arts, culture and heritage. This series of workshops, as part of FutureSSM’s Community Art Project, is the beginning of that implementation that will see long-lasting benefits for both our youth and our arts and culture sector.
