Covid-19 Updates
Since our last update regarding the messaging from Ontario's chief medical officer, Dr. Kieran Moore, we have now received communications from all three Health Units with whom we work (Porcupine Health Unit, Public Health Sudbury and Algoma Public Health), advising that they too are strongly recommending that masks be worn in public settings, including schools and childcare facilities.
Algoma District School Board, in support of the position of our health partners, also strongly recommends masking in public places, including schools, childcare centres and on public/school transportation. As previously noted, we continue to make masks available to staff and students, free of charge. As some, for health or other reasons, must wear a mask and others are unable to tolerate the wearing of a mask, it is imperative that we work together to continue to maintain respectful, welcoming and inclusive environments for all, regardless of their masking needs or preferences.
We note again that schools continue to have access to Rapid Antigen Tests, which are made available upon request. As always, we ask that staff, students and visitors continue to self-monitor every day before attending school and individuals who are feeling ill are asked to remain home, to prevent the spread of illness.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
In addition, please note the following direction that is has been provided by Algoma Public Health, "If you have a sore throat, runny nose, stuffy nose, abdominal pain, pink eye, headache, lack of appetite or any other sign or symptom of illness not included in the COVID-19 screening tool, do not attend school or child care and stay home until your symptom improves for at least 24 hours."
