Message from the Chair

(December 2024) It is a privilege to serve the Algoma District School Board as Chair of the Board of Trustees for another year and I look forward to continuing to work with Vice Chair Johnston. I appreciate the extensive knowledge, wisdom, and leadership skills that she shares around this boardroom and at the provincial level.

As a Board, we continually review the work around the strategic priorities of Achievement, well-being, and equity. We know the new Attendance toolkit, coupled with the leadership of our caring re-engagement team, will help support these priorities and ultimately lead to greater academic success that will equip students to successfully graduate and move on to post-secondary education or the workforce. We are anticipating positive results from this initiative. We are confident that through education and support, we can overcome some of the barriers to success for our most vulnerable students. At the same time, the message that every school day counts will send a proactive message to families and community members who can help support all of our students towards better attendance.

We are always thankful for positive enrolment growth and know that more families are choosing our board because of our welcoming environments, professional staff, diverse programming, and support that are available to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

On the capital front, we are thankful for the progress at Three Rivers JK-12 School in Blind River. The groundwork is complete and the construction has begun! I recently toured the ongoing transformation in the tech wing of White Pines and am excited about the progress and vision for this dynamic Trade School that will equip our students for the workforce of tomorrow.

There is much to be thankful for as we look back and much to look forward to in the coming year.  Thank you once again for your support! I look forward to working together to build confident learners and caring citizens who are proud to be ADSB!
